Today we made our trek from Hue to Hoi An - a four and a half hour trip with our fantastic tour guide Hung. There were a number of highlights but in order they went something like this........
Beginning with the ascent up to the Hai Van Pass we passed some beautiful oyster farms and some hardworking locals. Grandma is right into trying out new experiences, so look carefully for her having a go at clam picking.
We stopped at the top of the Pass which is also the actual border between north and south Vietnam. The gunnery towers and bunkers are the tell tale remnants.
When we came to Danang we spend some time with some local fisher women. You'll notice the round fishing boat on the sand. It was quite the sight to see this woman with her mobile, a fist full of cash, and thongs over holey socks.
Next we headed to Marble Mountain where the amazing pagoda was somewhat overshadowed by the elevator. We nearly lost our marbles with with all the marble. Gem succumbed however and has ordered two gigantic white lions to go either side of the driveway. Will got a elephant for his room and Mum - well Dad you'll just have to wait and see.
And finally the beautiful Hoi An and a well deserved dip in the pool. Initially we thought we'd got it wrong because we were 3kms out of town, but oh were we wrong. Right on the river and so relaxing just watching the real Vietnam.
Hoi An our base for the next 3 days. So much to do and see and so little time.
